Documenting a Way of Life through ICT @ Wayanad

As part of the Adivasi Youth Skill Development Program, ICT training was given to about 40 Adivasi youth in the age group of 15-25 years, from June 2015 onwards. The more backward Paniya community among the Adivasis were mostly included in the program.

Young people from the Adivasi community were provided training in computers, multimedia, Internet, cameras etc. The basics such as OS, hard disk, typing in Malayalam, and Libre Office were covered. Participants were trained to create content and learnt about shooting, editing and publishing. They learnt to use image, audio and video editing tools and to create text and presentations. They also learnt about using the Internet – websites, email and search engines. The skills they have acquired will be used to document Adivasi history, traditions, culture, rituals, indigenous wisdom such as plant medicines, their current issues, and to publish them online. They documented Vithulsavam or Seed Fest, an exhibition of indigenous seeds, by shooting and editing photos and videos. The next step and the final outcome intended for this program is to create a complete web portal for the Adivasi community, for which they are currently building content.
