Early treatment limits autism damage

Early intervention helps to mitigate autism related damage in children, said Dr. Sohan Roy, Psychatriast, in his address to parents and teachers during a meet organised at Insight centre on 8 September 2012. Dr Roy emphasised the importance of providing timely treatment for autistic children. Many parents prefer alternative treatment initially, out of fear of side effects of modern medicine. This results in delay in initiating treatment. Dr. Roy observed that alternative medicine could have side effects too.

Insight presented at IGF

Insight project of SPACE and Kerala State IT Mission was presented at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Workshop by Mr.Satish Babu, Director, ICFOSS. The workshop titled "Implementing Good Practices in Accessibility for an Inclusive Society” was held at Nairobi, Kenya on 28 September 2011. The IGF workshop was held to assess the implementation of accessibility around the world and to share good practices.

Workshop on CMS at NISH

SPACE conducted a workshop for the differently abled staff of NISH on 15, 16 and 24 September 2011 on the basics of Content Management Systems. The workshop included an introduction to Drupal, installation, content creation and website development.10 members of the staff participated.

Insight opens lab for children with special needs

On September 19, Software Freedom Day, Insight opened an ICT lab for children with special needs. The lab set in a child-friendly ambience, has three computers which children can tinker with and explore through games and activities. Special needs comprise a wide range of physical, emotional and learning difficulties of children. Computers and computer assisted technologies are known to improve eye-hand coordination, language development and learning in all children.
