Swathanthra 2014 at Thiruvananthapuram

Swathanthra 2014, the 5th International Free Software Conference, partnered by SPACE, took place from December 18th to 20th at Thiruvananthapuram with the theme ‘Free Software for a Free World’. The penultimate day of the conference featured a session called Freedom on the Cloud, with discussions on issues related to cloud computing, surveillance and privacy, chaired by SPACE Executive Director Arun. On the last day, there was a presentation by SPACE Secretary Joseph C Mathew in the session on Free Software in E-Governance, which explored its current role and future potential. Also on the last day was a session on Computing for the Differently Abled, emphasizing the crucial role of free software in building a more inclusive society and the need for creating localised resources, with a presentation by Nila Ethel, centre-in-charge of SPACE’s INSIGHT project on autism.
