SPACE-KERALA, in partnership with Global Fund for Women, led the IGNITE International Girls Hackathon event, organized by Global Fund for Women, in India - one of the hackathon event locations, at SPACE, Kerala on February 13-16, 2015. Four different teams of girl coders joined their hands to contribute their talent, ideas, and creativity to build real world solutions to a critical challenge facing women and girls: access to safe spaces. They came up with a prototype of a website and an application that addresses the challenge of giving girls more and better access to safe spaces.

Various websites and applications from the coders included "Women-Raksha", a technology which would empower them and make their world safer by providing protection and assistance for women; "Maps4her", a mapping website which help women to find safe and women-friendly spaces like toilets, home-stays, public transportation and organizations; "Retaliate", a discussion forum for women mainly against street harassment in which women's voice can be heard and responded to; "Pravati", a contact application which helps women to make use of provided contacts under emergency situations as well as their personal needs,"Venus", a website which provides awareness about sex education and child safety,"#Shesaid", a discussion forum and "WAW-We are Women", an interactive game using scratch which deals with how to respond to a situation.

These different initiatives from girl coders will surely make an impact on safe spaces for women, explore gender equality and advocate for women and girls’ increased access to technologies.
