Free software training for Tribal Rights

From December 1st to 3rd 2014, a training program on basic GNU/Linux was conducted at Wayanad in association with MSSRF CAbC and Adivasi Development Action Council. Twelve members of the Adivasi community (five females and seven males) participated, and the topics covered included Basic GNU/Linux Desktop, Text Editor, Libre Office Writer and Internet. The objective of the program was to familiarise members of the Adivasi community with basic computer skills such as typing and using the mouse, word processing, Internet browsing and Email. They would then be able to use computers and the Internet to share their indigenous wisdom, express their views, keep themselves updated and document the issues they face. This would ultimately enable the Adivasi community to use technology as a platform for learning, communication and expression, providing a window to the outside world.
