Contribution to Global Information Society (GIS) Watch 2015

Speaking Up for the LGBT Community: SPACE contributed one chapter to Global Information Society (GIS) Watch 2015 on the theme of sexual rights and the Internet. LGBT rights in India have been in the spotlight in recent years, with first good news (in the 2009 Delhi High Court judgment in Naz Foundation vs Government of NCT of Delhi & Others decriminalising homosexuality for the first time in 150 years) and then bad news, with the Supreme Court later overturning the progressive High Court ruling.

The report by SPACE in GIS Watch 2015 is thus appropriately titled ‘Recriminalising Homosexuality in India: Its Effect on Alternate Sexual Expression on the Internet’ authored by Gopalakrishnan R, and it discusses the impact on the online behaviour of sexual minorities following the Section 377 verdict by the Supreme Court of India in late 2013 that recriminalised homosexuality.
