Conference on Free Software

Event Date:
2008-12-09T00:00:00

The 2nd International Conferenceon Freedom in Computing, Development and Culture will be held from 9-11 December 2008 at Mascot Convention Center, Thiruvananthapuram. The free software movement that took shape a quarter century ago, provides an alternative model for software production, dissemination and ownership. This model has found echoes in other areas of knowledge production and dissemination, literature and the arts.

As Information and Communication technology deepens the existing divides further, the free software movement is a counter force advocating and creating models for digital equity. The international conference seeks to showcase the various interventions in this area. For more information on the free software movement read Trends in Freedom and Freedom Movements (in PDF format).

Free software activists across the globe will address the conference on the three conference tracks:technology, culture and policy. An exibition will also be held in the afternoon at Kanakakunnu Palace Grounds on 9-11 December.

The conference is organised by the Government of Kerala, Kerala State IT Mission and SPACE.
