Alakal find its space in cyberspace

Alakal - waves in Malayalam and Tamil - is the first exclusive community radio initiative in India for fisherfolk. It has started daily three hour experimental narrowcast on 1st May 2006 at coastal radio clubs located at three fish landing centres in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It covers people from 15 villages who come to these centres to buy and sell fish.

Ruby on Rails: Web 2.0 Applications Programming

SPACE jointly with IIITM-K is hosting a two-day exploratory workshop on Ruby on Rails: Web 2.0 Applications Programming on May 18th &19th, 2007 (Friday & Saturday). The workshop will be conducted by Warren Noronha, Senior Consultant, Change.org. He is one of the early adopters of Ruby on Rails and other free software projects.

SPACE organized a two day workshop on using Internet and www as citizen's media at Akshaya E Center, Thiruvankulam on 10,11, March 2007. The programme focused on building and deploying content for the web. Hands on training was given on html, css and wordpress.

ICT in Engineering Education

SPACE jointly with Department of Electronics, Govt. College of Engineering, Trivandrum is organising a 10 day course on "ICT in Engineering Education" from 26th February 2007 to 9 March 2007. The course is intended to expose the teachers to the principles and practices in employing Information Communication Technology (ICT) in engineering education. It also aims to impart the basic skills needed for effectively using the state of the art Free Software ICT tools in their regular teaching. This programme is supported by Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Kerala.
