Knowledge Management and Free Software

The presentation will focus on introducing the newly emerging semantic web (Web 2.0) vision, and how it is transforming the cyberspace and desktop. The web engineering technology that is behind it is a good example of putting weak-AI and knowledge representation and organization into practice. The emerging standards like OWL, XTM, and CL will be briefly introduced. Free software technology contributed substantially in shaping up the Internet, and even in this new avatar, free software continues to take the lead. Towards the end, I will also introduce GNOWSYS (Gnowledge Networking and Organzing SYStem), and how it can become a catalysis in transforming network and furthering the user's freedom in creation, collection and distribution of free knowledge.
