SPACE @ Sangamam NGO meet

SPACE showcased Insight project for the differently abled at Sangamam 2011, the NGO meet organised by the Kerala Chapter of the Indian Council of Social Work (ICSW) at Kottayam from 23-24 September 2011. The meet was organised in partnership with BCM College Kottayam and ICSW Kottayam District Chapter.

ICT and New Media workshop at Govt. College of Teacher Education

25 women students of the Government College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram participated in a two day workshop on ICT and New Media. The workshop, among a series aimed at equipping women students in ICT and New Media, was conducted from 22-23 September 2011.

Workshop on CMS at NISH

SPACE conducted a workshop for the differently abled staff of NISH on 15, 16 and 24 September 2011 on the basics of Content Management Systems. The workshop included an introduction to Drupal, installation, content creation and website development.10 members of the staff participated.

SPACE conducted a training on ICT/New media tools for research scholars from 20-28 June 2011 at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram.15 research scholars attended the training. The training was organised in partnership with Department of Education, University of Kerala and Government College of Teacher Education,Thiruvananthapuram.

Bringing the Magic out of children: A summer camp with a difference

The joy with which children anticipate the two month long break from school in summer is often spoiled by the lack of choices that confronts them once it finally gets underway. The urban solution for this problem-the summer camp, a sometimes pricey but welcome day time getaway for children, is what working parents count on for the safe upkeep of their children. For the children it means much more: making new friends, learning an art/craft or two and exploring subjects that never make it to their curriculum at school.

Live Streaming of campaign to ban Endosulfan

SPACE rendered its support to the campaign for banning Endosulfan by streaming the protest headed by the Chief Minister of  Kerala V.S Achuthanandan on 26 April 2011 at Thiruvananthapuram. Streaming using free software and rudimentary hardware allowed activists at the Stockholm Convention in Geneva to draw the attention of fellow participants to Kerala's demand for a ban on Endosulfan.

GNU/Linux workshop for hardware vendors

As part of SPACE's continued efforts to build technical support for GNU/Linux in Kerala, a workshop was organised in Malappuram district on 12 March 2011. 30 hardware vendors participated in the workshop. They were introduced to desktop features and networking in GNU/Linux. The workshop also provided installation and trouble shooting tips to the vendors. The workshop was organised in partnership with the All Kerala IT Dealers Association (AKITDA)
