The prelaunch of "Ila", an independent portal developed by SPACE, Mediact and SOMS (School of Media Studies), will be held at Hotel Chaithram, Thiruvananthapuram, tomorrow.
Ila, conceived as an alternative medium for news and discussion will primarily feature articles and aggregated content of selected blogs. It offers civil society its rightful place in the media to build a broader perspective on issues, far removed from market influences.
"Urjasamrakshanam", a portal on energy conservation developed by Green Energy Trust and SPACE was launched on 30 October 2008 by Dr.N.S Ramaswamy, Founder-Director, IIM Bangalore.


A two hour presentation on Blender, a free software 3 D modeling and animation tool will be held at 5 p.m at YMCA hall, Thiruvananthapuram on 17 October 2008. The programme is jointly organised by SPACE, YMCA and FSF India.
Software Freedom Day 2008 was jointly celebrated by SPACE, FSF India and GNU/Linux users group, Thiruvananthapuram on 20 Septemper 2008 at Press Club Hall, Thiruvananthapuram.
As a part of this year's Software Freedom Day celebrations we have announced a programming contest for students irrespective of the course they are pursuing.
The contest is based on the tutorial maSH - the true story of a shell. Please see the contest page for more information.
A cash award of Rs. 5000/- will be awarded to the best coder based on the quality of their code and creativity.
The competition is about adding some interesting builtin command of your choice to maSH.

Requirements
As part of the Software Freedom Day celebrations on 20.September.2008, a workshop titled "maSH - the true story of shell" will be held between 4:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m at the Press Club, Thirvananthapuram.
SPACE, Free Software Foundation of India and GNU/Linux users group, Thiruvananthapuram will organise a host of programmes to mark Software Freedom Day on 20 September 2008 at
Press Club Hall, Thiruvananthapuram.

Morning Session (10.00 am 1.00 pm)
If you own a PC/laptop and want to run it on an operating system that comes without strings attached, walk into GNU/Linux Installation Fest at Park Centre, Technopark with your PC/laptop on any day between September 1 to 5, 2008.
The Fest to be hosted by GNU/Linux Users Group Trivandrum, FSF-India, SPACE and Zyxware Technologies will be the third in a series of installation fests held this year. It will feature a series of talks on various applications of Free and Open Source Software. Two films developed with free software would be screened at the fest.
The fest will be inaugurated by Sri M.A Baby, Hon'ble Minister for Education, Government of Kerala at 4:30 p.m on September 1.
