September 17, Thiruvananthapuram As with the rest of the world,Software Freedom Day Celebration was conducted at SPACE. In connection with the occasion, there was a one-day training in GNU/Linux for a group of blind students. The students who had come from Cotton Hill and SMV Highschool got first hand training in using the GNOME desktop with orca screen reader. 12 students benefited from the training.
October 27,Ernakulam Free knowledge/ Free software meet was conducted at Info Park, Kakkanadu, Ernakulam. IT Mission conducted the event with the organisational support of SPACE .The event brought together knowledge activists from different walks of life:,representatives of NGO's, accademicians, software industry players, government functionaires and students.
October 25, Thiruvananthapuram. SPACE Conducted a series of one-day workshops on introduction to GNU/Linux for the staff of Doordarshan at Dooradarshan Kendra,TVM.The Workshop was organised by Assocation of Radio and Television Engineering Employees (ARTEE)
October 18- Technopark,Thiruvanthapuram. SPACE conducted a training in Asterisk PBX Management System at Indian Institute of Inforamtion Technology and Management-Kerala(IIIM-K)for their systems personal. Earlier SPACE's techinical team had sucessfully deployed asterisk there.
October 10, Kannur Azhikode Grama Panchayath can now boast of having a web portal of its own. A Joint project by SPACE, UNESCO, and AKSHAYA , SPACE provide the technical help for the portal. Named,'Ente Gramam Azhikode', the initiative envisaged to be a citizen contributed, locally maintained web portal that give detailed informations about the Panchayat .
October 10, Mahe SPACE's reach to students not only confined to technical Institutes. SPACE team conducted a 2-day training at MG Govt. Arts College, Mahe on Possibilities of Information Communication Technology and Free Software. The students participated in the meeting got hands- on training on Intenet and its wide spectrem of utilities.The feed back from the 30 students attended the training has encouraged SPACE to undertake further training sessions in the non techinical institutions of the State.
October 6, Thiruvanthapuram Journalism students of the Kerala University Campus got trained by SPACE in the use and application of New Media. A 2-day session conducted at SPACE dealt with web based media paractices. 18 students got trained in the day. SPACE plan to organise more of such training with different media schools of the State.
October 2, Thripunithura The youth wing of NSS Karayogam, Irimpanam, spent a day learning about Free software. The participants aged between 15 to 25, also got introduced to the possibilities of ICT, particularly of Internet. The latest development in the sphere of internet based services were highlighted, which will help the participants in their accademic and professional life.
